The Kickstarter campaign for Suikoden series spiritual successor Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes has closed at $4,571,418 funded-895 percent of its initial $510,735 funding goal. As explained in a new blog post, the final stretch goal, "A Quiet Place," is for a town creation RPG companion game developed by Japanese studio NatsumeAtari, which is known for games like The Ninja Saviors and Wild Guns. This game would release before Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes and feature a variety of different "Lifestyle" mini-games that allow players to gather a variety of different materials to build up their town, farm, and house. These materials would then be transferable to the main game when it launches to provide a head-start in crafting items, armor, and more. Some of the characters that appear in the main game are planned to appear in the companion game, and there may also be some kind of battle mechanic. (Read More)

This project is particularly interesting as the team behind it is made up of former game developers who worked on on the Suikoden series for Konami. It's been such a huge success that Kickstarter is struggling to keep up. In the latest update on the game's Kickstarter page, developer Rabbit & Bear Studios has celebrated the game's success, which has been strong enough to cause page crashes. "Many of you probably noticed that during the opening hours of the campaign, Kickstarter crashed multiple times." The post says that "The spirit and love of our fans" caused the crash, and to make up for it, to the Kickstarter campaign has been given an extra day, so there will be more time to pledge towards the project and reach higher stretch goals.
