In Depth: 10 Kickstarter projects you will be buying in 2014

July 13th - via: eg-hq.com
Crowd-funding sites like Kickstarter not only offer innovators and idea generators the means to get their project off the ground, it also offers us tech fans to get in on something at the ground level. Everyone's looking for the next big thing in tech, the chance to be a pioneer for a newfangled gadget, game, service or solution. Kickstarter gives us that chance and lets us get ahead of the crowd. Over the last couple of years, we've seen Android games consoles like Ouya and smartwatches like Pebble get their breaks on Kickstarter, while thousands of other products are now in development thanks to tech fans clubbing together. 2014 has been no different and projects from the ground-breaking and revolutionary to the 'damn, that's so simple I wish I'd have thought of it' are raking in the currency in cash and belief. (Read More)

Universim Kickstarter Wrapping Up, Striving Towards Stretch Goals

May 20th - via: hardcoregamer.com
It hasn’t been a bad month at all for Universim, which burst onto Kickstarter and garnered loads of attention with its stylish take on the god game. You’ve got a planet inhabited by cute little minimalist people, and while you can influence them you can’t control them directly. Set research paths, advance through technological ages, and then spread to the stars to colonize new worlds. Basically, like Spore (without the alien designing) meets Godus (without the ungodly levels of free-to-play suckage). (Read More)

The Universim – Previewed

May 19th - via: cliqist.com
With great power comes great responsibility and when you’re the god of an entire planet, that can be quite a bit to put on your plate. Starting from the ground up, watching the little people grow and develop into mature, civilized individuals, building up their homes, then villages, then towns, and then cities littered with skyscrapers and advanced technology. The people who needed to be taught how to start a fire are now developing nuclear weaponry and are threatening to go to war. Well, now they’ve created a space exploration program and they have space shuttles, ready to explore the universe and locate other planets to inhabit. (Read More)

Kickstarter Watch: The Universim

May 19th - via: indiehangover.com
Simulation Games and God Games are, more or less coming from the same place: the desire to create, control, and determine the future of some sort of civilization, be it a tribe, a town, or an empire. While SImulation games let you make decisions, God-sim games let you dictate the parameters of the world you are looking over. What if you could extend this power, this scope to an entire planet, or an entire universe? (Read More)

Crytivo Games to add in-game object editor to The Universim

May 15th - via: shoost.co
In a recent update on the studio’s Kickstarter page, Crytivo Games announced that rather than being a $400,000 stretch goal for its sandbox planet-management game, The Universim, an in-game object editor will now be available for the game even if the stretch goal isn’t met. In its place, a new $400,000 stretch goal has been added as a replacement. Interview – Chatting with Crytivo Games about The Universim

May 10th - via: indiegamemag.com
Touted as a “next generation Planet Management God-Game” on its Kickstarter page, the developers at Crytivo Games are quite confident they’re developing an experience unlike any other with The Universim. Players first experience the game during the Stone Age, where they’ll have to help nourish a young species as it slowly grows, advancing from technologically deficient all the way to scientifically savvy enough to venture out across the cosmos. But reaching the stars is only the beginning of a much longer journey, one that could potentially become the biggest God-game of all time. (Read More)

The Universim: Manage Mankind

May 1st - via: ghostvolta.com
I’ve always been a fan of management strategy games. SimCity, Rollercoaster Tycoon, and even Game Dev Tycoon were games that I lost myself in. However, after a while they all felt limited. I wanted to go beyond the walls and streets. I wanted to oversee a world- a universe even- and it would seem that The Universim by Crytivo Studios aims to do just that. (Read More)

The Universim - A fresh look at the simulation genre

April 26th - via: torilac.com
Over the past couple of years, I personally feel like the god and simulation genres have been going in a less than satisfactory direction. There have been quite a few niche simulation games such as Prison Architect and the fairly viral Goat Simulator. Those are all well and good but a game hasn't made me feel like a proper deity of sorts for a long time. Many hopefuls like myself looked towards Peter Molyneux's current project Godus. Sadly, a lot of hope has been lost for it after the slew of communication with the backers along with slow development updates. (Read More)

Massive: The Universim Aims To Be The Biggest God Game

April 25th - via: rockpapershotgun.com
I remember when game developers were ecstatic that they could simulate the barest spine of a ping-pong match. Actually I don’t because I wasn’t alive yet, but you get the idea. But I also remember when giant triple-A studios trumpeted recreations of evolution, societies evolving through the ages, and space colonization from on high, and now even that notion seems sort of antiquated. The Universim is looking to not only match the likes of Spore and Civilization, but also – in places – exceed them. In short, it’s a god game in which you start with a single stone age planet and branch out to explore and colonize the entire universe. The wildest part? Despite being more than a year out, it already looks rather stunning in places. (Read More)

Take to the Stars in The Universim

April 23rd - via: cliqist.com
I’m not usually gripped by a specific Kickstarter, I’m usually just generally supportive of the idea of getting your ideas out there. When that idea becomes something cool, then I get excited. Right now, however, I’m a little excited about a project called The Universim. God games have been out of vogue for a while, and people have started to miss them, so they’re coming back. Of all the comings back The Universim, child of Crytivo Games, looks like the one you would be best served keeping an eye on. (Read More)

The Universim is the End-all God Game You’ve Been Dreaming Of

April 23rd - via: indiegamemag.com
Somehow, The Universim is both wildly ambitious and completely focused at the same time—the perfect formula for a Kickstarter project; it’s a god game with enough thoroughly thought out and well-proposed features that someone could write a master’s thesis on it. While bearing the same ‘made by gamers, for gamers’ clause as so many other Kickstarters, this game truly feels like one, by incorporating so many “I wish a game did this” ideas that I’m genuinely surprised it hasn’t been picked up by a publisher yet. Oh wait. What’s this I see on their Kickstarter page? They’ve already turned down publishers? They “want the community to be the driving force of this game”? “The best way to do that is to remain independent”?! “There will be no DRM and absolutely no micro-transactions for the game whatsoever”! “All future DLC will also be completely free”!! (Read More)
