Origins 2013 Convention Recap!

June 20th - via: fruitlesspursuits.com
This past weekend was Origins 2013, the medium sized festival of tabletop games in Columbus, Ohio. If there was a game that dominated my Origins experience it would be the microgame Council of Verona by Crash Games and designed by Michael Eskue. How could 13 cards have such an impact? It's hard to say, but it's easy to see that the game is very well-crafted and packs a lot of punch in it's tiny footprint. (Read More)

Make a reservation, because space is at a premium here at the Geek Compound! Don joins us again for a new Anime segment. Jeff Cornelius, from Cosmic Wombat Games, drops in to give us the lowdown on Stones of Fate. And if that wasn’t enough, Megan & Sara sit in to help review Escape: The Curse of the Temple. Sadly, you still hear the voices of Jeff and Jordan, but try to look past that and enjoy the rest of the geeky goodness! And of course, we have to ask the important, hard hitting questions: Who’s a cute, little doggy? (Read More)

Casual Game Crowdfunding: Tombs, Pirates, and Shakespeare

June 7th - via: casualgamerevolution.com
To our dismay, tabletop projects on Kickstarter seem to be getting more and more polarized. There is a very dedicated audience of wargamers and other hardcore gamers that scoop up their favorite projects in record numbers, while casual games consistently struggle. For instance, the Toughest Girls of the Galaxy line of miniatures recently reached its $12K funding goal in 30 seconds! It often takes weeks for a casual game to reach that amount, if ever. Casual games are rarely at the top of the popularity list, either on Kickstarter or sites like Board Game Geek, which means they can be difficult to find. (Read More)

Stones of Fate Game Review (prepublished version)

May 24th - via: fathergeek.com
Life is a mystery and an adventure. We can clearly see the choices put in front of us, but not the results of the choices we have not yet made. Some believe in fate and some believe that the future is not yet written. In the end, it really doesn’t matter because we can only take action on what we know and what is before us. In this game, what is before you is a mystery, but through subtle game play and manipulation, even fate can be controlled. Nothing is for certain. (Read More)
