When Veteran Game Developers Launch Bad Kickstarters

August 18th - via: cliqist.com
The last few weeks have been interesting because of three Kickstarter projects: Umdlalo, Auraspark and of course Night Trap Revamped. The people behind these projects are game developers that have vast experience in video game industry, but ended up launching really bad Kickstarter projects. Now, to be fair, roughly half of Kickstarter’s video game projects fail and a number of these are launched by industry veterans. However, it is important for both backers and indie game developers on Kickstarter and IndieGogo to take a step back from time to time and make note of the factors that often play critical role is the success of a project, or in these cases failure. (Read More)

Weekly Launchpad. Aug 10 – 16 Kickstarters

Every week we take a brief look at all of the Kickstarter campaigns that launched in the previous week. This isn’t to say that all of these projects are worth your hard earned cash, but with any luck having all of them in one place will make it easier to educate yourself on the projects you’d like to back, and which ones to run from. You’ll find two types of campaigns listed, “featured” and “the rest“. (Read More)

Night Trap ReVamped is in Need of Help

August 15th - via: cliqist.com
Night Trap, released in 1992, was one of the early full motion video (FMV) games. This odd tale of vampires, er, “augs” invading a suburban slumber party felt like a teen horror flick straight out of the 80s. And in fact, it was initially produced in 1987. Since then, the game has achieved cult status with those who never even owned a Sega CD or 32X able to sing the iconic theme song. To a diehard FMV fan as myself it would be hard to select any other title as the first to receive a HD version. (Read More)

Night Trap: ReVamped hits Kickstarter

August 11th - via: retrogamer.net
If you enjoyed The Bluffer’s Guide to Interactive Movies in issue 131, here’s some news that’ll excite you – Night Trap, the most infamous example of the genre, is set for a re-release in HD. According to the Night Trap: ReVamped Kickstarter page, the project needs $330,000 to get off the ground and will be released on PC, Mac and unspecified PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The page also mentions that the team is looking into online and mobile versions of the game, and even a potential sequel should the re-release do well. (Read More)

Night Trap ReVamped aims to reanimate the FMV classic via Kickstarter

August 11th - via: polygon.com
We've been documenting one Polygon staffer's (it's me, hello) shameful addiction to FMV games, most all of which have been shelved in the dark corners of gaming history just behind the dust-covered Game.Com systems. But if one FMV game has persisted in the zeitgeist, it is Night Trap, the campy quest to save Dana Plato and a houseful of co-eds from the relentless advances of the vampiric Augers. (Read More)
