Last year was a particularly uncertain and scary time for cinemas everywhere as the take-over of the digital projector forced thousands of independents to “go digital or go dark”. With the looming worldwide deadline at the end of 2013 to convert to an $85,000+ piece of equipment, small business owners had to come up with a money-making solution quick, or face closure. And in a twist of irony, that’s where the digital age gave back; with a little website called Kickstarter.
