3 Upcoming Kickstarter Board Games – Vinyls, Printing and Old Japan

Long time no see (or is it?). Time for a brand new, fresh and delicious batch of upcoming game previews delivered straight to you. Today we have 3 projects, all inspired by different eras: from 1400s when printing was invented to vinyl colored 1960s. Enjoy!

Philosophia: Floating World – September 1st

We love games with Japanese settings and tend to check every single one that hits Kickstarter. Philosophia: Floating World by Cogito Ergo Meeple takes us to 1800s Japan where we have to learn about philosophy, fight mythical monsters and experience other attractions that the country has to offer.

The game is a “Simultaneous Deck Builder” and this means two different things. First your opponent draws cards for you and divides them into 2 stacks while discarding one card. You can only take one stack. Secondly: in the action phase everyone acts at the same time and the only way to resolve conflicts (that will obviously arise) is the uniquely designed Influence Track.

During the game you’ll have to collect 4 Ganbare Tokens for achievements like building a pagoda or defeating a colossal skeleton. You need to get 4 of these to win. There is also another, more sneaky way to become victorious (more on that in  our article here).

Everything comes illustrated with stunning, classic woodblock print paintings by Hiroshige and Hokusai. There are also miniatures and a board with a pretty map of Japan. Add a hefty amount of top notch strategy gameplay and competitive fun and we have a real winner here.

Impression – September 15

Impression. Trademarks and visuals belong to their rightful owners.

Okay, that’s one of the most unique themes we’ve seen on Kickstarter recently. Making an euro style game about the early days of printing sounds like a damn creative idea. The guys from A-games have decided to tackle this topic and we’ll witness the result of their work on September 15th.

Impression makes players into owners of huge manufactures dedicated to printing. 2 to 4 players can compete on the market and everyone has their own variable powers. To progress you will need to upgrade your technology and do everything to become the richest and most reputable printing tycoon out there.

The game takes between 60 to 120 minutes depending on the number of players. During the game you will add new tiles to your typesetter, place and move your assistants, gain new skills, start new factories and complete various orders.

Vinyl: Big Band – September 15

Vinyl: Big Band. Trademarks and visuals belong to their rightful owners.

Vinyl debuted back in 2018 and got 2 Kickstarter campaigns with plenty of expansions. The game lets players turn into hardcore vinyl collectors hunting for rarest and most precious records. Players move around the store, bump into others (literally) and collect Album Cards from Record Bins. Magazine Cards are important to get albums, as you need some knowledge to plan your buying sprees properly.

“Big Band” – the newest expansion to Vinyl will launch on Kickstarter on September 15th and introduce lots of new stuff. The main additions are the Window Display and the Hits Chart. New albums featured here belong to Swing and Jazz music genres. We can also expect previous entries from the franchise to be available during the campaign.
