Players will also be able to sell their creations, though the openness of the platform makes it easy for people to republish creations for free after purchase. Book-Larsson sees this more as an opportunity for people to support great creators because they want to, rather than because they have to.
The gameplay largely revolves around competitive multiplayer. Team deathmath and capture point modes join a cooperative or story-based campaign that’s likely arriving after launch. Players select their character from a roster of heroes that they previously interacted with as NPCs in APB: Reloaded, using their unique abilities to augment their melee and shooting arsenal. The hook Reloaded Games hopes will appeals to FPS fans, though, is the movement system. The developer likens it to Brink and Mirror’s Edge, though Book-Larsson was quick to emphasize that it would be much easier to control than either of those games. Some of the agility-based moves you’ll be able to execute in Vendetta include running on walls, slowing time, sliding, and kicking the weapons out of opponent’s hands.
Of the 12 launch characters, there are three class archetypes: Acrobat, Mercenary, and Juggernaut. Each of the three features different stats when it comes to health, speed, and agility. For instance the Juggernaut, Vendetta’s heavy class, is the fastest sprinter, and can knock people over once he gets up to speed.
There will be official servers at launch, where you can play all the base maps and classes. You will also be able to rent servers and change some features of the game with in-game tools that don’t require extensive modding experience. For the more ambitious players Reloaded Games wants to allow you to make modded servers, changing everything about the level’s aesthetics, physics, and more. It sounds like this feature will largely be contingent on whether or not Vendetta makes its Kickstarter stretch goals.Currently Vendetta is only in development for PC. However, if the team can raise enough money, and if the next-gen platforms have options that make sense with Vendetta’s creation tools, the studio would like to bring it to PS4. It would also require Epic to support Unreal 3 on PS4, which it hasn’t yet done.
