New Pressurized Beer Growler Hits the Market After Successful Kickstarter Campaign

GrowlerWerks was formed when a group of friends realized that there are no portable pressurized beer growlers for sale in the market. Traditional growlers are made of glass and make beers go flat, warm, and stale, Entrepreneur reported.

If there was a way to keep beer fresh then the dreaded "drain pour" would cease to be a problem. A pressurized growler would also make beer drinking an all-around richer experience.

Shawn Huff, GrowlerWerks President and founder, apparently tried to impress his girlfriend's parents with a fine Oregon IPA. But the glass growler had made it stale. From then on, he decided he would address this problem.

It was then that GrowlerWerks was formed. Its founders, all engineers, started with a 3-D printed plastic prototype. They self-funded themselves and raised $80,000. A positive response resulted in a Kickstarter campaign which was launched a year ago.

With the support of more than 10,000 fans, GrowlerWerks was able to raise upwards of $1.5 million. And now, the uKeg is for sale to all craft brewers and beer lovers everywhere. The uKeg is different from any other growler today.

It is vacuum-insulated, has a removable tap, and a patent-pending variable regulation cap. It uses food-grade CO2 cartridges that keep beer fresh and bubbly. The uKeg also comes in stainless steel and copper-plated versions to match the aesthetics of many traditional breweries.

According to their website, the people behind GrowlerWerks are the first folks to crack the code on pressurized growlers. They are also inspired by "A love of good beer, and a desire the make the experience better. We're beer lovers living in a beer-rich region, and as engineers we recognized the need for a better solution. We decided to focus our skills and efforts on this endeavor, and the rest is history."
