It reminded us of when we ran the site essentially on donations, which was something I really liked doing. It was only two of us back then, so it was a very different proposition financially. Still. Going that route was incredibly instructive personally and professionally. Here’s what I mean by that. (Read More)

Kickstarter Responds to Concerns Over Zach Braff Campaign

May 10th - via: geekosystem.com
here’s been a lot of talk lately about what, exactly, are Kickstarter‘s guidelines and how they apply to various bigger fish, as it were, coming into the rather small pond of crowdfunding. Lots of claims have been made, and the grumbling is audible across most forms of social media, but what does Kickstarter the company actually think about all this? Hint: They like projects like the ones Zach Braff, Penny Arcade, and Veronica Mars have run. (Read More)

Editor's Letter: Penny Arcade and the Abuse of Kickstarter

The idea behind Kickstarter is a beautiful one - it's about the democratization of investment, about allowing the man in the basement with the dream to create an everlasting toothbrush to put his theory to the test. It's not an iTunes preorder page. (Read More)
