Why does the “WEMAGIN: INTERNET PRIVACY GADGET” look like snake-oil?

November 13th - via: cybergibbons.com
When Anonabox appeared on the crowd funding scene last month, a lot of information security professionals and privacy advocates were rightly annoyed by the dishonest claims made by the creators. Many of us spent quite a while raising questions and promoting concerns on various forms of media, until thankfully Kickstarter suspended the project. We don’t actually know what the final trigger was, but we do know that a concerted effort by a focused group can stop crowd funding projects in their tracks. (Read More)

Now Everyone Wants to Sell You a Magical Anonymity Router. Choose Wisely

October 24th - via: wired.com
Maintaining your privacy online, like investing in stocks or looking good naked, has become one of those nagging desires that leaves Americans with a surplus of stress and a deficit of facts. So it's no surprise that a cottage industry of privacy marketers now wants to sell them the solution in a $50 piece of hardware promising internet “anonymity” or “invisibility." And as with any panacea in a box, the quicker the fix, the more doubt it deserves. (Read More)

[FORUM POST] Hi I'm August Germar, a developer for the anonabox. AMA!

October 15th - via: reddit.com
Hi everyone, this is August Germar, the anonabox Kickstarter developer. I had a good time doing the AMA on the /tor section of Reddit the other night, and now I am flattered to see someone has made a whole new reddit section just for this. I'm so amazed to see the outpouring of interest in this project! When it started I was only expecting a handful of people, mainly developers who wanted to work on this with me, turns out, a lot of people just want the device! I'll be here for a while (at least until the coffee runs out) while I am catching up on responses to messages in Kickstarter and updating the FAQ. (Read More)
