Evidently slow to recognize irony when it slaps them in their self-serving faces, the producers of the third installment of the eminently-forgettable Atlas Shrugged movies - 5% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes! - have gone on Kickstarter to panhandle for $250,000 to market their newest work about a guy whose mantra is, "Never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine,” written by a woman who argued, or at least is currently represented as arguing, that every man must depend only upon himself, the Free Market and hard work and that any form of charity, altruism or help from others was "evil." Isn’t that the book where characters pledge to “never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine”? (Read More)

As you may recall, the first two parts of the Atlas Shrugged movie adaptation were not exactly a huge success with audiences or with critics. Critics are not a problem, of course; they can be dismissed because they’re just part of the Liberal Media Establishment. And if audiences stayed away, well, that’s just because maybe they were simply not ready for the Important Message of an Ayn Rand movie — they’ll find it, they will, and it will change their lives. Producers of "Atlas Shrugged Part III" have full funding for their upcoming Ayn Rand adaptation, but that hasn't prevented them from hitting Kickstarter in search of an additional $250,000. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter to announce the Kickstarter campaign, producer Harmon Kaslow said the goal is use the crowdfunding site for its marketing value. (Read More)

For the first time, the filmmakers behind the Atlas Shrugged movie trilogy will raise production and marketing money through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. The campaign is scheduled to kick off Monday and is designed to raise $250,000 of the film’s $10 million budget. (Read More)

If the market has dictated anything it's that no one cares about "Atlas Shrugged." The reception to the trilogy has been pretty dismal both critically and commercially, with the first part earning $4.6 million and second even less, with $3.3 million. The budget on the first movie alone was $20 million and something tells us Ayn Rand herself would tell the filmmakers to get out of this while they still can. Somehow $10 million more dollars is being spent on a third installment, and the filmmakers want your money. (Read More)
