Kickstarter Tabletop Round-Up

I’ve had my hands full with the new baby, but that doesn’t mean I’m not still eyeing a lot of board games on Kickstarter as always. With Gen Con coming up, there have been a slew of projects launching—so many that with some of the prototype copies I’ve been sent I’ve only been able to play once or twice so far. (Plus, hey, I’ve been playing some of my long-awaited Kickstarter rewards…) (Read More)

Card Game Review – The Agents

July 19th - via:
I’ve been resisting this Kickstarter phenomenon. In the early days, I kept getting review copies that were half-baked crap, printed on cheap cardstock with unintelligible rules and baskets of bad ideas, and the creators of these gaming mockeries wanted me to help them promote their Kickstarter campaign so that they could foist their undeserving refuse off on hapless dingleberries who love to give people their money. (Read More)

The Agents: The Interrogation Begins

July 19th - via:
One of the hottest projects on Kickstarter right now is The Agents, and card game for 2-5 players. One of the creators reached out to me a day or so before the project launched, and in my response I said that it was one of the best project page previews I’ve ever seen. The art and design looked great, the reward levels were clearly written and priced fairly, and they had already arranged for a number of third-party reviews. Also, the game looked awesome. (Read More)

The Lost Art Of Keeping A Secret – The Agents preview

July 16th - via:
Coming straight out of nowhere, Saar Shai has brought The Agents out into the light through Kickstarter. I was lucky enough to receive a preview prototype recently and am pleased to say that the hype behind the game – one which blew through its funding target in a matter of hours, quite impressive considering there are no minis involved, just cards – is well deserved. Other reviewers have roundly praised this interesting little game, and I’m happy to add my voice to the chorus. (Read More)

Design Review: The Agents

July 11th - via:
A few months back, I received an unexpected email from someone I was, at the time, completely unfamiliar with. His name is Saar and he asked me if I could take a look at his new game, The Agents, that he was hoping to put on soon. His email was flattering and the game he described sounded interesting. I responded as frankly as possible that I am not a reviewer, but I would gladly take a look at his game and give him my feedback. He seemed satisfied with that and promptly mailed me a prototype copy of the game. I’ve had the game in my possession for a few weeks now and I’ve decided to break my “no review” policy for this one. I really like this game. (Read More)

Casual Game Crowdfunding: Brawls, Special Agents, and Chinese Restaurants

Preview—THE AGENTS – A Double-edged Cards Game

July 9th - via:
Live on Kickstarter today (and already funded!), is The Agents, a card game where you constantly need to be on your toes to win. Designed by Saar Shai, the game put you in a war between agents who have no agency to belong to any more. It supports 2 – 5 players, and has run me between 30-60 minutes to play. (Read More)

The Agents

July 9th - via:
“The Agents”, put simply, features more agents than an episode of “Get Smart”. It’s a tactical, turn-based card game that tasks players with earning the most victory points. As always, there’s a catch: cards have two different effects. You can play one of those effects on yourself, but the other effect will be made available to your opponent. It’s an interesting give-and-take mechanic that I don’t see very often in card games, but before I get into all of that, I’d like to thank Saar Shai for providing me with a free prototype copy. While the prototype may not fully represent the finished product, it is close enough to where I could do a full review. Be advised however that some of the rules mentioned below may be subject to change. (Read More)
