HeroQuest Kickstarter cancelled over rights dispute

The ongoing dispute between the originator of the HeroQuest 25th anniversary Kickstarter, Gamezone and the rights holder of the trademark in the U.S., Moon Design Publications (MDP), has ended with the Kickstarter cancelled on December 5. The crux of the issue revolves around how Kickstarter operates, and it provides an interesting test case for future questions about how trademark applies to crowdfunding in the future. (Read More)

Moon Design Publications explains action against the HeroQuest Kickstarter

Moon Design Publications (MDP) clarified its stance regarding the HeroQuest Kickstarter on December 1, laying out the dialogue with Gamezone -- a dialogue that ended in Kickstarter taking the project down due to the legal dispute. Francis Greg Stafford registered the "Heroquest" trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (Registration Number 4082281) trademark for use in game book manuals. (Read More)

Background concerning suspension of Gamezone’s Kickstarter campaign

Last week, Moon Design petitioned Kickstarter to remove the crowdfunding campaign for Gamezone’s “Heroquest” game. “Heroquest” is the registered US trademark of Moon Design and is the name of our “Heroquest” roleplaying game and assorted products. To allow a game using the same name to be promoted in the United States through Kickstarter without a license would be an unacceptable dilution of our brand and create market confusion to our detriment. (Read More)

GameZone releases statement after HeroQuest project suspended

Moon Design believes that their interests in the HEROQUEST brand within the USA will be infringed upon. Although we are not distributing or selling our product in US territory. As a precaution Moon Design presented a C/D on the 27th of Nov. Our talks are coming to a point where the negotiation will benefit all those involved, which finally would let us offer our product in stores in the USA sometime next year. (Read More)
