Susan Johnson of Braveart Films will make her feature directorial debut on an adaptation of Caren Lissner’s young adult novel “Carrie Pilby.”

Producers are Suzanne Farwell and Susan Cartsonis of Storefront Pictures. Farwell is a long-time collaborator of Nancy Meyers and co-producer of “Something’s Gotta Give.” Cartsonis produced “What Women Want,” “Aquamarine” and “Beastly.”

The producers are planning to fund the project via a Kickstarter campaign.

Carrie Pilby” centers on a 19 year old former prodigy who has graduated Harvard with no emotional resources and no idea how she fits into the world. It was one of the first novels published by female-focused imprint, Red Dress Ink and was re-published in 2010 by Harlequin’s Teen line and subsequently has been published in France, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Australia, Indonesia, and the U.K.

Johnson’s producing credits include thiller “The Between,” starring Joel Courtney and Isabel Fuhrman; “Eye of the Hurricane,” starring Melanie Lynskey, Campbell Scott and Nicola Peltz; and “Mean Creek.”
