Sci-Fi RPG Xenotheria Reaches Kickstarter Goal
The first thing you notice about Xenotheria, the card-combat RPG currently running its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, is that it takes place on a desert planet and all the characters are fish people. You’d think they wouldn’t survive very long, but they’re all wearing elaborate suits which possibly keep them hydrated. Anyway, the game’s campaign is in its last few days and has successfully reached its $25,000 goal.
Wolf Prime is home to the galaxy’s most important trading port. One day, the denizens look up at the sky and see fireballs…tons of them, and all headed for their city! A huge shower of space debris, including spaceships, satellites, and orbital stations, crashes down upon them. It’s up to Squiggles, one of the survivors, and his misfit team to figure out the truth behind the event.
Developer Ganymede Games says they’re taking inspiration from Baten Kaitos and Steamworld Quest for the battle system, in which you place your characters on a grid and dictate their moves with cards. As you explore the planet, you’ll meet plenty of other fish-men and have the chance to recruit many of them. Each team member comes with their own set of cards, some of which work in tandem with the cards of other characters. A good battle strategy involves swapping out characters to invoke team combos using each member’s abilities.
You can get a digital copy of Xenotheria for a $25 pledge, or a $23 pledge if the “Early Bird” tier is still available (five slots were left as of this writing). You can gain beta access by upping the pledge to $35 and the soundtrack by increasing it to $45. All backers will receive the DLC campaign free of charge, whenever it’s completed. Hurry if you want one — the campaign will only be open for one more day!
Xenotheria is planned for a November 2023 release; the beta version will begin testing around the second quarter of 2022.
