On a tiny volcanic island, chickens of different characteristics are constantly in battle for dominance over other clans. Legendary chickens lead their chicken followers to battle, sometimes they even build big machines. The leaders strive to become 'King of chicken island'; they try to do it by slapping other  leaders and humiliate them in front of their clan. Whoever manages to become the most respected chicken in battle shall wear the crest crown and rule –not for long– this tiny volcanic island.

War for Chicken Island is an easy, fun, and tactical skirmish miniatures board game for up to four players. Each player helps to build the modular hexagonal movement map, and then roosts their leader and their chicken army on a corner of the map. Players can build machines and robots which the chickens can ride into battle to destroy their opponents.

However, birds of a feather don't necessarily flock together, and not all chickens may want to invest strongly in mechanics, choosing instead to utilize their magical scrolls to give their chicken army a strategic edge.

War for Chicken Island was created by Ivan Escalante and Gnomosapiens in early 2016. However, in October 2018, the license for publishing War for Chicken Island was acquired by Draco Gaming, who are promising a top quality product for their backers.

The game includes 20 custom dice and 35 miniatures. Each army leader has it's own background and concept art, and the sculpts themselves are currently on their 2nd revision, with two more revisions to go before the final product is confirmed.

Solo mode is still under development, however, this looks like it could be a fun, tactical skirmish game. On their turn, a player will draw a scroll card which will help them or hinder their opponents. Players then roll dice to see what actions are available to them on this turn; these include, recovering chickens or resources, receiving bonuses, moving, attacking and special leader effects. Players can then take one free action, and then discard dice to receive additional actions or effects.

Players can also discard resources to build machines, and assign members of their chicken army as pilots to guide their mechs. However, catastrophe can occur, and pugilist poultry may find itself in danger, teetering towards a lava abyss or the edge of the island.

Overall, War for Chicken Island is a great way to introduce new people to miniature skirmish gaming, and there's a lot of joy to be had in the cartoonish style of the miniatures and the surrealist storyline. Hooked hens and roused roosters flap their wings over to the Kickstarter to add their pledge and wear the crest crown!
