Tech tools: MyVolts.com’s Ripcord

Have you ever looked at the mess of wall power adapters you have for various pieces of kit and wished that there was a better option? Irish company MyVolts.com thinks it has the answer: the Ripcord.

It’s a USB power cable that is designed to power devices that need a 9V power source, aimed initially at musicians. It takes the 5V supplied by the USB port and turns it into 9V, so you can power mini amps, guitar pedals or similar devices with one small cable from your laptop, a USB power pack for example.

There’s a tip adapter set so you can be sure it will work with whatever equipment you have. And it’s far more compact than the current wall charger you are stuck with. The company is currently running a Kickstarter campaign where you can pick up the Ripcord on early bird deals.
