This Game Boy the Size of a Credit Card Is Incredibly Cool

If you're finding that Candy Crush just isn't as exciting as it was before, then get prepared to meet your new gaming companion. Arduboy is a game system that fits in your wallet and costs only $39.

The Arduboy, which is currently in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign with about two weeks left, is the size of a credit card and plays 8-bit games. It's preinstalled with a classic game but also has plenty more to download for free from the Arduboy Arcade.

Most of those games are very familiar, as they mimic popular titles — for instance Arduboy's Ardumon game looks a lot like Pokémon. Anyone in the Arduino community can create games since it's open sourced. If you're not convinced yet, the design might be what sells you. It looks just like a Game Boy, with a bright OLED display, six buttons, and an eight-hour battery life.

The team behind the Arduboy isn't stopping there either — they also plan on getting the product out into classrooms with education kits so kids can learn how to program. So far, the Kickstarter campaign has raised over $200,000 more than what the campaign originally asked for — $25,000 — bringing the current total to $329,000. If you donate $39, you will receive an Arduboy, which is expected to ship later this year in October.

While we'll never give up our smartphones, there's definitely something superappealing and cute about this 8-bit gaming system.
