Kickstarter Find: Dash vehicle on-board diagnostic monitoring

April 1st - via: technologytell.com
Kickstarter projects serve many purposes, and for those of us who spend over an hour each day getting to and from work, shuffling kids around, or even just getting to that particular GameStop with the best 3DS selection, one of the most noble is keeping our automobiles in good shape. Such is the purpose of Dash, which plugs into your car’s diagnostic port and syncs wirelessly to your iPhone, iPod or iPod touch to provide real time updates on fuel efficiency, engine problems, driving patterns, and more. (Read More)

Insert Coin: Dash charts your car data live, with gauges and a dashcam

March 31st - via: engadget.com
We've seen a few stabs at smartphone-enhanced car diagnostics as of late, but many good solutions like Automatic Link and Delphi's Vehicle Diagnostics are primarily useful after you've parked. The upcoming Dash OBD-II adapter is certainly up to that side of the job, telling a Bluetooth-connected iOS device (and eventually, Android) about your car's problems and estimating fuel costs based on the gas tank's levels. Where it stands out is its usefulness while on the road: the custom app offers custom live gauges, including a Green-Meter for ideal fuel economy that you won't usually find in a real instrument cluster. There's even a dashcam mode that overlays travel details on captured video, whether it's to support insurance claims or just to immortalize a drive through the back country. (Read More)

The Dash Car Dongle Wants To Make You A Better Driver By Syncing With Your iPhone

March 29th - via: techcrunch.com
I love my tiny little Mazda, but I’ll be honest — I still don’t completely understand how it works. That’s never really bothered me before (I’d much rather geek out over a phone or something) but a Kickstarter project from a small team in Boston has me itching to pay more attention to what’s really going on under the hood. Long story short, Dash combines a Bluetooth 4.0-enabled dongle that plugs into your car’s on-board diagnostics port with an iPhone app that gives you up-to-date information how on your car is holding up. (Read More)
