I'll confess to never having watched Thunderbirds, so I have no nostalgic connection to the show and can consider this design only from the gameplay elements. So, apparently Thunderbirds was an old TV show and before the news of this game hit my twitter feed, I honestly didn't have any idea what Thunderbirds was. Not only was it a TV show back 50 years ago, but it was done using marionette puppetry with scale models for special effects. To get a better feel of what the show was about, I went to the library and rented the 2004 live action movie. It was an interesting little movie, but I really liked the concept. I think I would personally have a hard time watching the old TV show, but I'm curious to see what else comes out this year in honor of its 50 year anniversary. (Read More)

Thunderbirds are go! The wonderfully campy 1965-1966 Gerry Anderson British TV show Thunderbirds turns 50 this year. While most of the press is focusing on the upcoming reboot of the TV show, British game studio Modiphius is also joining the franchise with a cooperative board game designed by none other than the master of the genre himself, Matt Leacock. The annual Golden Geek Awards have been held where users of boardgamegeek.com vote on their favorites. The winner this year: Splendor. Splendor is a game I put in the “fun enough” category.
