GaymerX2 Panel Report: Designing Inclusive Videogames
August 26th - via: cliqist.com
Video games are not born out of a vacuum but created by one to hundreds of people. Although all types of people have been driven to create games since their inception, it’s the unfortunate statistical reality of game development that many creators are from very similar backgrounds (ie: straight and male). With this in mind, how can developers go about making their games inclusive to a whole wealth of prospective players? According to Christine Love of Love Conquers All Games, David Rosen of Wolfire Games, and Elizabeth Zelle of Volition, it’s not hard at all. In fact, it’s rather silly to not work towards inclusivity. (Read More)
Changes I Hope to See With GaymerX3
August 11th - via: cliqist.com
GaymerX2 was supposed to be the last GaymerX convention. Despite tremendous love for the first and second years, it was just too much of a financial burden for organizers. And yet, thanks to an unfortunate slip up with NIS America, GaymerX staff got to see that their convention had actually made an impact on people. Suddenly, people and companies pledged thousands of dollars to help fund a third convention. Yes, at the time a third convention was off the table, but such kind gestures did not go unnoticed. As fantastic as GaymerX2 was, there are still a few changes I would really love to see if – and when – GaymerX3 becomes a real thing. (Read More)
GaymerX2 Panel Report: Gender and Sexuality in Interactive Fiction
August 4th - via: cliqist.com
Interactive fiction may very well be one of my favorite genres in video games. In case the title seems a bit broad, people usually boil “interactive fiction” down to heavily story-focused (and often text-only) experiences. For some, the games appear to be like the Choose Your Own Adventure books of our youth, although not all interactive fiction has as much choice – and some have far more. Visual novels can also be included as intensely story driven experiences accompanied by still or animated artwork. (Read More)
GaymerX2 Panel Report: Gearbox Software’s Gaymer X Spectacular
July 30th - via: cliqist.com
Gearbox is the developer best known for the Borderlands series although they’ve been around for a good while now. However, it’s mostly in Borderlands that they have begun creating unique and interesting characters in regards to gender, body type, and sexuality. And yet, these gentle pushes are relatively rare in the video game industry. As such, it was very interesting to hear members of the development team speak at a LGBT-focused convention. (Read More)
GaymerX2. How Was The Show?
July 15th - via: cliqist.com
GaymerX was a convention born of crowdfunding. Thanks to Kickstarter, and many wonderful backers, this new gaming convention was able to take over San Francisco for a weekend in 2013. GaymerX2 also saw crowdfunding success but it was a bit bittersweet. Because of expenses and circumstances beyond the Kickstarter, 2014’s con would be the last year. I knew then I had to go or else I would end up regretting missing such an amazing event. (Read More)

GaymerX2 Crowd-Funding Campaign in its Final Stretch
March 24th - via: gamepolitics.com
Organizers of last year's first gay gaming and geek culture convention launched a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign in mid-February for GaymerX2. Now with less than 12 hours to go before the crowd-funding campaigns, organizers are trying to hit a final stretch goal of $30,000. Hitting that milestone will allow them to bring on The Super Soul Bros! to play live music during the event. Previous stretch goals included adding an additional $1,500 cash prize to the cosplay contest being held at the event, color programs, and pronoun sticker add-ons for badges. (Read More)
