Edison: A Peek Into the Design of The Robot Anyone Can Afford

August 6th - via: makezine.com
Electronics and playing LEGO have always been passions of mine. As a child I had a monster collection of LEGO and drooled over my ‘Dick Smith Electronics’ catalogue filled electronics parts and kits (Australian version of Radio Shack/Tandy). As I enter my 40th year, I am finally bringing these two passions together with Edison. (Read More)

Edison, an Affordable Toy Robot, Launches on Kickstarter

August 6th - via: businessweek.com
Lego is, first and foremost, fun. Building with those small plastic blocks also teaches some fundamentals of engineering: how to build a structure that won’t topple over—that is, one stable enough to survive getting trampled by the family dog. A new robotic toy on Kickstarter can also make playing with Lego a lesson in computer programming. So you can hedge your bets by steering your kid toward two lucrative careers at once, under the guise of unstructured playtime. (Read More)

Cool Kickstarter: The Edison

July 31st - via: botbench.com

A few of them should be immediately obvious to most: the LEGO compatible pin holes and knobs. The bottom of the robot has a few strips of LEGO plate-like receptacles, so you connect bricks to that side, too (or stack multiple Edisons). (Read More)

Edison offers affordable and Lego-compatible robotics education

July 29th - via: gizmag.com
With robots set to play a more prominent role in society in the coming years, it makes sense to find fun ways to educate youngsters on the technology. To that end, Thomas Alva has developed Edison, a palm-sized, bright orange, programmable robot compatible with Lego bricks that is intended as an affordable introduction to programming and robotics. (Read More)

[PRESS RELEASE] LEGO compatible robotics for less than the cost of a text book

July 29th - via: blog.stemconnector.org
Microbric has launched a Kickstarter campaign for its latest STEM targeted offering, Edison, (www.meetedison.com) in a bid to address the shortage of affordable technology resources in mainstream education. Edison – or the little orange robot – encompasses the functionality of other robotic products already available, but at a much lower price, opening the door to wide spread adoption by all schools. (Read More)
