Saving a Musical Wonder [podcast]

March 26th - via: cpr.org
In the Western Slope town of Rangely, there's an old water tank (apparently built for a railroad that never came.) Locals first discovered the tank’s remarkable acoustics years ago, and then musicians from out of town took notice. Like Bruce Odland, who once led a big band in Denver and who’s now a composer and sound artist in New York. He’s launched a Kickstarter campaign to preserve the tank and keep the music coming. Odland talks to Ryan Warner. (Read More)

Save the Tank: Musicians unite to preserve the Tank, an acoustic marvel in northwestern Colorado

March 13th - via: blogs.westword.com
Back in 1976, while traveling around northwestern Colorado, composer and musician Bruce Odland was introduced by locals to the Tank, a sixty-foot-tall water tank outside Rangely. Odland used a circular portal to go inside the never-used tank -- and immediately knew he'd entered a very special sonic wonderland. Since that day Odland has embarked on many recordings and performances inside the chamber, where a single note can reverberate and decay for forty seconds or more. (Read More)

Turn This Sonic Wonder into a Permanent Recording Studio

March 12th - via: culturalweekly.com
Situated near the dirt hills of Rangeley, Colorado, The Tank is a sonic wonder of the world with a shifting, swirling reverberation longer and richer than the Taj Majal or the Great Pyramid. But The Tank is in need of serious repair, so Bruce Odland and his friends have launched a Kickstarter campaign. They need to raise $42,000 by March 31, 2013. (Read More)
