Could another Earthworm Jim be in the works?

July 6th - via: n3rdabl3.co.uk
When I first heard that past Earthworm Jim creator Doug TenNapel was heading to Kickstarter for a new game, I was SO excited that it was going to be a new Earthworm Jim game. Kickstarter Katchup – June 30th 2013

June 30th - via: rockpapershotgun.com
Last week I was at Rezzed instead of looking at Kickstarter pages but I’ve made up for it by spending most of today browsing through projects. Thoughts of Kickstarter’s purpose have been hanging in the air (on twitter and in chatrooms that I frequent) and I have been pondering how I see the site. I have backed projects knowing that I’m essentially pre-ordering something that I assume will be released and will be as expected, based on the team’s previous work and a comfortable place in a familiar genre. But I mostly back smaller projects that I want to support and to play because they are different, risky and challenging. There’s a great deal of innovation among the nostalgia. (Read More)

Hangin' in the Neverhood - A Pencil Test Studios Interview, Pt. 1

June 20th - via: doubleplusgoodgames.com
This is a story I’ll tell anyone who cares to listen. It’s brief, so just shut up and deal with it. E3 is a magical place. I had the pleasure of experiencing my very first go ’round this year, in fact. I expected to be floored with sights, sounds, and indecision (which happened); as well as loaded down with tons of cool swag, neat knick-knacks, and functionless tchochkes (which kind of happened… kind of). I expected the entire show would get better and better with each passing day. I expected to lament the doors closing once it was all over. What I didn’t expect was to have my “Moment of Show” take place about two hours after my arrival on day one. (Read More)

Armikrog: An Adventure in Clay

June 20th - via: geekdad.com
I’ve always loved stop-motion animation, particularly claymation. (Don’t get me wrong: computer animation is fantastic these days and I haven’t missed a Pixar flick yet, but it’s just fun to know that what you’re watching on screen actually exists in the real world, that somebody sculpted this little character and glued on hair or stuck on the eyeballs.) And I’m also a huge fan of Doug TenNapel’s bizarre comics. (Read More)

June 18th - via: igameresponsibly.com
By now I’ve conducted my fair share of interviews with top industry talent, but Mike Dietz is a thoroughbred in a class of his own. The talented artist has worked in Television (Community), Film (Star Wars: Episode III), and of course Video Games (The Neverhood). Dietz is a wizard with animation in the same light Frank Oz (Yoda) is with puppeteering. His career is the stuff of legend, and it was an enormous pleasure to have a candid chat with him. Dietz, Ed Schofield, and Doug TenNapel have reunited to crowdfund a visionary claymation adventure game called Armikrog, and are well over half way home at the time of this writing. (Read More)

Armikrog is an interesting new claymation adventure title from the creator of Earthworm Jim, Doug TenNapel and the team at Pencil Test Studios. Founded by Mike Dietz and Ed Schofield (also from Earthworm Jim and The Neverhood), Pencil Test has "passion and dedication to blurring the lines between art and technology in" video games, Dietz tells us. Not quite a spiritual successor to The Neverhood, Armikrog does offer a similar witty humor "that harkens back to the works of George Herriman and Dr. Seuss." (Read More)

Neverhood developers reform for Armikrog Kickstarter

June 2nd - via: games.on.net
You can easily divide the world into “friends”, “enemies”, and “undecided” by asking whether an individual remembers The Neverhood, and if they do, finding out whether they love it. Anybody who says “no” may be safely consigned to the sin bin, because the claymation point-and-click was terrific fun. (Read More)

On Doug TenNapel, Bigotry and supporting Hate

June 2nd - via: mostly-retro.com
Doug TenNapel, co-creator of the beloved Earthworm Jim franchise, is currently trying to fund a new game, Armikrog, a spiritual successor to his cult hit The Neverhood. It’s not surprising. Ever since Double Fine proved that you can bank on gamers’ desire for retro-flavored projects, other developers have been coming out of the woodwork to try and get their own projects funded and released. And good on them. Kickstarter has proven that sometimes people really do put their money where their mouths are, and that when the chance comes along they’re eager to support something they believe in. But when you support someone’s project, you’re also supporting what they believe in, whether you like it or not. And when you’re supporting Armikrog, you’re supporting the work of a person who has said some truly troubling things. (Read More)

Armikrog

May 30th - via: nerdluster.com
In the world of stop motion you have a bevy of award-winning television shows like Wallace and Gromit, Creature Comforts, Shaun the Sheep, Pingu and Gumby. Video game developers have also made some critically acclaimed entries into the category with ClayFighter, Trog, The Dark Eye, and The Neverhood. My childhood was filled with the great twilights of animation before computer-assisted graphics ended up dropping the cost of production and making stop motion prohibitively expensive. Having experienced the best the genre has to offer I have a special place in my heart for stop motion animation, it's a write-protected space deep in the feels. (Read More)

Behold Armikrog, the spiritual sequel to The Neverhood

May 29th - via: destructoid.com
The Neverhood was one of the more unfortunate commercial failures of the point-and-click era. It was a one-of-a-kind (two-of-a-kind if you include its PS1 platformer sequel) claymation adventure from the mind of Doug TenNapel, creator of Earthworm Jim. A game with such a striking aesthetic deserved a much better commercial reception, and its poor performance basically guaranteed that we'd never see anything as remarkable again. (Read More)

(Read More)

Currently Kickstarting: Armikrog

May 28th - via: kickstartadventure.com
What do you get when you combine Ray Harryhausen style stop-motion animation, claymation style characters, in a science fiction setting with a blended together smoothie of humor and action all boxed up nicely in a point-and-click adventure game? Well, the creators of “Earthworm Jim” and “The Neverhood”, Doug TenNapel, Mike Dietz, and Ed Schofield think you get a new Kickstarter project for a game called “Armikrog”. And, while “Armikrog” sounds like a new craft beer from the Harry Potter universe to me, if the Kickstarter by Pencil Test Studios, Inc. is successful, it will be a new game for PC, MAC, and LINUX. (Read More)
