Kicktraq Interview – IMAGES … From the Ashes (A Photographer’s Resolve)

March 12th - via: blog.kicktraq.com
When I first came across this project, I thought – “Oh, great, another candidate for my coffee table.” I’m not particularly excited by photography books in general, but then I read a little further and realized that this project was way more than the standard coffee-mug holder (you know you do it, too.) Blake, a 71-year-old photographer who spent his youth in New York City shooting photos of John Lennon and Woody Allen, has been featured in nearly 40 gallery exhibitions. In 2008, he was preparing to publish a photo book when a massive fire consumed his home and possessions, destroying nearly all of his photos from the first 30 years of his career. (Read More)

[PRESS RELEASE] Photographer “Rises from the Ashes” - Acclaimed Artist Loses Life’s Work in Fire; Re-creates from Memory and Soul for New Book

February 7th - via: prweb.com
Billy Blake has announced the long-awaited release of his photographic collection entitled “IMAGES ... From the Ashes – a photographer’s resolve”. The title plays on Blake’s tragic loss in a 2008 Malibu fire, and his inspirational resolve to rise above it. Blake has initiated a campaign on kickstarter.com, and intends to use the raise to offset costs of publishing and producing over-sized prints for several featured gallery exhibitions showcasing works from the book. Galleries in LA, NY, and Toronto have already signed on to showcase month-long featured exhibitions and BOA Gallery in West Hollywood will host the debut. (Read More)
