Will Hyper Light Drifter make it to Wii U?

Heart Machine has been running a Kickstarter campaign over the last month in an attempt to make Hyper Light Drifter a reality and to say it has been successful would be an understatement.

Initially hoping to nab $27,000 in funding, the developer is now approaching the $450,000 mark with just seven days left to run - that's about 1,657 percent more than it was looking for.

The current confirmed platforms include PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, Vita and OUYA and Heart Machine did say last week it hopes to include Wii U, stating if the campaign reached half a million dollars it could be possible.

Well, Nintendo's system is now an official stretch goal after the team confirmed it has had talks with the company:

After completing talks with Nintendo and wrapping our minds around the time and resources needed, we are extremely excited to announce an official stretch goal for Wii U! Yes, we love this platform and it makes us giddy!

The Wii U target is $550,000 and should it be hit, all backers who pledged $15 and above will be able to choose between a Wii U, Steam, PlayStation 4, Vita or Ouya key. They can also have a DRM free copy should they prefer.

Hyper Light Drifter is a 2D action RPG that works in a similar fashion to many Legend of Zelda titles. Indeed, Heart Machine says it plays like A Link to the Past and Diablo, while it features a dark and detailed interconnected world that has many alternate paths and secrets to find.
