Mysterious Cities of Gold Game Tops Kickstarter Goal for English Release

Stretch goal added for subtitles in Italian, German, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, Swedish

French indie video game studios Neko Entertainment and Ynnis Interactive's Kickstarter campaign to localize the upcoming game The Mysterious Cities of Gold: Secret Paths into English with Spanish subtitles reached its goal of US$30,000 on Thursday.

The companies added a stretch goal of US$40,000 to include subtitles in Italian, German, Portuguese, Brazilian Portuguese, and Swedish. Polish will also be added as a subtitle option for free, after a professional translator fan volunteered for the job. The Kickstarter includes a PC port of the game.

The game is currently on track for release this fall in France for the Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, iPad, and iPhone.

The Mysterious Cities of Gold: Secret Paths is a puzzle and infiltration game based on the French and Japanese animated series The Mysterious Cities of Gold, where players control the three main characters alternately. The storyline is designed to be faithful to the series, with each level representing a location from the show.

Ynnis Interactive previously released the mobile game The Mystérieuses Cités d'Or - Vol du Condor (Mysterious Cities of Gold -Flight of the Condor) iOS and Android mobile game in French and English.

The Mysterious Cities of Gold was a co-production between France's DiC studio and Japan's Studio Pierrot. The show was broadcast on children's BBC in the 1980s, and in North America on Nickelodeon. In Japan, it was shown on NHK as Taiyo no Ko Esteban or Esteban, a Boy from the Sun. A sequel, produced in France, began airing in 2012.

Set in the sixteenth century, the series chronicles the adventures of three children, the boys Esteban and Tao and the girl Zia (plus the parrot Kokapetl), as they seek the legendary cities of gold in South America.
