Two weeks ago we brought you the news that Behold Studios, developer of Knights of Pen & Paper, had launched a Kickstarter campaign for a new game called Chroma Squad.

The good news is that the project has burst through its $55,000 Kickstarter funding target with a full 15 days to spare.

So what caused Chroma Squad to gain such fervent attention? Well, there's the fact that Knights of Pen & Paper was an impeccably executed and thoroughly charming ode to table top RPGs of yore.

The developer has form alright, but there's much more to it than that.

Chroma Squad is all about setting up your own sentai studio to produce Power Rangers-like action films starring super-powered heroes. It'll be up to you to film kick-ass action scenes and implement convincing special effects, as well as managing your studio and the delusional stunt-men at the heart of each production.

This appears to translate as a quirky take on the squad-based strategy game, mixed in with some deeper management elements and a tongue-in-cheek narrative.

This being from the Knights of Pen & Paper team, you can expect plenty of affectionate nods to geek culture from the '80s and '90s.

You want some bad news? Unfortunately, while the game is set to debut on PC and Mac this year, the iOS and Android tablet versions are not set to make an appearance until mid-2014.

Still, it looks as if the team is going to get a lot more money for the project than they bargained for, so maybe they can pump some of the extra funds into speeding the conversion process up a bit, eh? We can but hope.
