Old-School Strategy-RPG Quadruples Its Kickstarter Goal

I've always been hesitant to get too excited about Kickstarter projects that promise to be "love letters" to the old-school RPGs that many of us love and cherish. It seems like every week there's a new group of indie developers promising to make the next Lunar or Final Fantasy VI. It can get a little exhausting.

But! Liege, a game we've been hearing about for a while now, seems to have done quite well for itself: over the past month the game's creators have earned close to $60,000—four times their goal of $15,000. The developers are now promising to bring it to PS4, Vita, and Wii U (in addition to PC, Mac, iOS, and so forth).

Liege, if you're wondering, is a strategy-RPG "inspired by games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem, and chess" with lots of lofty promises—a mature story, 16-bit charm, old-school sensibilities. It'll be split into a trilogy, creator John Rhee says—and they're aiming for a December 2014 release.

It certainly looks neat, like many Kickstarters do—hopefully Rhee and his crew live up to backers' expectations. Check out the Kickstarter page for more details on the art, music, etc.
