It has become a rite of passage: celebrities that use Kickstarter and crowdfunding in general will eventually be the subject of some number of articles asking if they’re ruining the platform, and then those same celebrities will be asked to offer their opinion on the matter.
Enter Spike Lee, who insists he isn’t “bogarting Kickstarter.” He argues that celebrities and high-profile campaign creators bring new eyes to the platform, and those new backers will go on to back other projects. He also quips about talking to Kickstarter’s co-founders and being warned about backlash regarding his status and his campaign.
Lee has raised over $300,000 toward a $1.25 million goal for his Kickstarter campaign.
