When Tyler Hadzicki was in middle school, he had an idea for a science fair project to make "a better bike." Now, according to ABC 10 News, the 17-year-old from California has developed his invention, the Onda Cycle, into an actual product.
Coronado Patch says the Onda Cycle is a fusion between a bicycle and a Big Wheel, so riders are lower to the ground and also have the ability to spin backward and forward.
"Onda, it means wave in Spanish and it kind of moves like a wave," Tyler said.

Tyler had some help along the way from his dad, Joseph, who is also an engineer and inventor. After coming up with a final design and securing two patents, Tyler took his invention to the next level by starting a Kickstarter to raise more funds. In less than a month, the teen collected over $46,000 from 140 different backers and plans on producing at least 200 bikes this summer.
"The response we got to this is amazing," Tyler told ABC 10 News. "Totally unexpected and super cool."
In a slightly more ambitious project, another teen -- 18-year-old Eesha Khare -- was recognized in May for her own groundbreaking invention. The teen won the Intel Foundation Young Scientist Award for creating a device that can charge a cell phone between 20 and 30 seconds. Eesha explained that her invention, which is a kind of supercapacitor, acts as an energy storage device that holds a great amount energy in a small amount of space.
“I will be setting the world on fire,” Eesha told CBS San Francisco .
