Zelda, Banjo-Kazooie Inspired Platformer A Hat in Time Tackles Kickstarter on Nintendo gaming news, videos and discussion

A 3D platformer, inspired by classic Nintendo games, has blitzed its Kickstarter target with a Wii U version a possibility.

Paying homage to and updating the classic platforming/3D adventure formula developed during the Nintendo 64 era, A Hat in Time aims to "re-create that feeling of exploration and excitement".

The concept draws influence from classics including Banjo-Kazooie, The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario 64, revolving around an interstellar-travelling Hat Kid who tries to collect scattered time pieces to save the world before its too late.

A Hat in Time will be available on Windows/Mac, with a Steam version planned. With the team being big Nintendo fans, there are talks to help create a Wii U version as well - though it's still to be confirmed.

So far A Hat in Time has already met its first set of stretch goals, including developer commentary and a two player co-operative feature.

What do you think of the A Hat in Time concept?

The "press left mouse button to continue" prompts in some of their screenshots tells me this is not the kind of platformer I want to play... at least until it shows up on Wii U or some other console I own that has an actual controller. I hope their Kickstarter success makes it possible for them to do a proper console release.

It does look beautiful, though, and while the art style seems a little derivative of Wind Waker at times, the characters are really very different.
