The 7th Guest Set to Rock Vinyl in ‘Soup’s On’ Kickstarter

Classic CD-ROM game enthusiasts and vinyl collectors rejoice: the groundbreaking title The 7th Guest is slated for a unique release on quadruple vinyl records. A pioneering venture spearheaded by industrial-rock band Error 47, the ambitious project aims to give the iconic game soundtrack an explosive new life on vinyl.

Error 47 has announced a Kickstarter campaign to fund the pressing of a special vinyl edition of their upcoming album, aptly named “Soup’s On - Selections from Stauf’s Infernal Jukebox.” The album features a massive 27-track compilation drawn from both The 7th Guest and its sequel, The 11th Hour, reimagined in the band's signature industrial-rock style.

This isn't your average game soundtrack: prepare for headbanging to Stauf, the infamous antagonist from the series. The band blends powerful guitars and robust drumming with intricate synth work, creating a hard-rock interpretation of the original MIDI score composed by George “The Fat Man” Sanger. With a combined run-time of over 2½ hours, “Soup’s On” is a sprawling adventure across the eerie, mind-bending realms of Stauf's haunted mansion.

The campaign, now live on Kickstarter, seeks to raise approximately $13,150 USD (€12,300) to cover the costs of pressing the album on quadruple vinyl. If successfully funded, the album will be released as a 4xLP set, with discs 1 and 2 covering music from The 7th Guest and discs 3 and 4 focusing on its sequel, The 11th Hour.

The vinyl cover art, an evocative rendition of the iconic “Soup Head” character from the games, is specially recreated for this project by original Trilobyte artist Rob Stein III.

The campaign isn't just about the vinyl release, however. Backers can expect an array of exclusive rewards, including colored vinyl variants, a super-exclusive box set, an accompanying remix record entitled “Second Servings,” a limited-edition cassette tape, a signed poster, a rare coloring book from 1994 signed by George Sanger himself, and opportunities to participate in an online launch party. These tantalizing rewards will not be available anywhere else post-campaign.

The band, Error 47, was formed by Troels Pleimert (known as the Space Quest Historian) and Jon Paul Sapsford, a professional music teacher and record engineer based in Chicago. For “Soupʼs On,” they are joined by classically trained viola player Erik Elsom, bassist Michael Counsell, and vocalist Jackie Stewart. The band's previous albums have drawn from other iconic game soundtracks like Duke Nukem 3D and Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers.

"Soup’s On" is being produced with the full support and permission of George “The Fat Man” Sanger and Trilobyte Games. The campaign aims to deliver the album on vinyl, but the music will still see a release on digital and CD formats regardless of the campaign's outcome.

The original soundtracks to the games are currently available on The Fat Man’s Bandcamp page. Interested backers can visit the Kickstarter campaign page to contribute and ensure they get their hands on these unique rewards before they're gone. With a touch of nostalgia and a heavy dose of rocking beats, this campaign promises to be a wild ride into the haunting world of Stauf and his infernal jukebox.
