Firefly Pick with LED Light

The Firefly Pick produces LED light with every pick attack, it is currently a Kickstarter project by Capcitron.

Firefly Pick with LED light

This pick is designed to be a cool visual effect that guitar players can use to enhance their live performance, or to simply have fun.

We’ve all seen glow in the dark and light up picks, but the Firefly pick takes that to another level by being able to respond to your technique. The LED light inside the pick will light up every time you move the pick, which results in a rhythmic light show that matches the music you are playing.

The design incorporates fine-tuned algorithms that generate various synchronized light shows, it pulses the embedded light in a way that matches the beat of the music you are playing and it will work for both slow and fast picking techniques.

Capacitron claims that the Firefly Pick is the most intelligent pick in the market, and they maybe right because it features high brightness LEDs that are driven by a high-speed sensor system that can detect various picking styles and techniques. The sensors are designed to detect the faintest pick attack while ignoring the noise and other motions in the environment. Aside from guitars, the sensors within the pick can also work with other stringed instruments.

The most challenging aspect of this guitar pick is how to fit attack sensitive electronics inside a standard sized pick. Capacitron seems to have accomplished this well with their latest prototype, retaining a good thin profile while having compact electronics within. The latest design incorporates a high energy battery with energy-efficient LEDs, as well as light-diffusing plastics on the exterior.

Another important feature of the Firefly pick is its shape and profile. Capacitron worked with professional musicians to get give this pick a useful and practical shape. They were able to accomplish this with the help of 3D printing. Recharging the pick is as easy as getting a micro-USB cable and plugging it in to a computer.

The pick is expected to be available in various LED colors, but they are currently limited to popular ones due to economic and practical reasons. The current prototype now covers multiple pick shapes, and the designers are hoping that the Kickstarter campaign will help them get their designs ready for mass production.
