Creative Beasts Studios is back at it again with their biggest Kickstarter project yet. Following highly successful campaigns for velociraptor and ceratopsian action figures, the long-awaited Tyrannosaur wave has come to the Beasts of the Mesozoic line.
For those unfamiliar with this toy line (for shame!), Beasts of the Mesozoic features scientifically accurate, super articulated dinosaur figures sculpted by David Silva, who’s one of the best toy designers/sculptors in the business.
At the time of this writing, the Tyrannosaur Kickstarter campaign has almost reached its $185,000 backer goal in less than nine hours. Considering it will run until October 22nd, that leaves plenty of time for some amazing stretch goals to be revealed/unlocked.
For now, however, let’s look at current incredible base offerings. First up is a series of gorgeous art prints by Ezra Tucker, Raul Ramos, and RJ Palmer. In case you were wondering, that green T-Rex is absolutely an homage to the oversized Dino-Riders toy many of us pined for during the ’90s.
Now we get to the Tyrannosaur figures, which will come in 1/35th (big) and 1/18th (HUGE) scale. The 1/18th figures are a bit pricey at $200-$210, but if you’ve ordered Beasts of the Mesozoic figures before, then you know they’ll be worth every penny and then some.
Also, it’s going to be hard to resist that Dino-Riders figure, especially since I always wanted that one as a kid (and an adult).
There are also some great stretch goals already lined up. I was planning to wait for the blue T-Rex before adding to my base order, but that Dilong paradoxus is so gorgeous that I may not be able to keep within my predetermined budget.

There’s a lot more great stuff on the Kickstarter’s campaign page, including videos and photos about the process that goes into creating these figures along with what inspired Silva to make them. Silva also teases a future project that will combine dinosaurs and cybernetics (and likely drain my bank account).
You’ll still be able to order most of these figures after the Kickstarter campaign ends, but at a higher price point and without any of the exclusives. Don’t make the same mistake that I did with the Raptor series — go pick up your Tyrannosaur today!
