The Kickstarter for the Monster Hunter: World board game has already surpassed $1.5 million in a day. The Monster Hunter: World board game is ambitious in capturing all of the beloved aspects of Monster Hunter in a tabletop format.

The concept was initially launched last summer with the premise of a strategy based board game. Players have a limited amount of options to hunt a monster in a certain locale, such as the Ancient Forest or Wildspire Waste from the actual game. The goal, unsurprisingly enough, is to hunt a monster such as Rathalos, who is represented with its own board piece. The hunters will have to advance towards the monster and deal damage to it, and bonus rewards are granted depending on which parts of the body are struck. These rewards could be used to craft more weapons to hunt even stronger monsters, a gameplay loop that resembles the core loop of Monster Hunter.

The Kickstarter launched on April 20th, yet it reached its goal of $210,028 in 10 minutes. At the time of writing, the Kickstarter is currently over $1.8 million and has over 7,000 backers, all before the end of the first day. Steamforged Games has pledged to give more updates and bonuses to the game in the form of "login bonuses" and journal entries, with the first entry covering Kulu-Ya-Ku.

The video game Monster Hunter: World is currently finished with major updates in favor of the next mainline entry of the series, Monster Hunter: Rise. The last major title update to Monster Hunter World: Iceborne added the black dragon, Fatalis. There were also various updates on a smaller scale after this update, such as the addition of the Monster Hunter movie collab quest and the permanent unlocking of all event quests in the game. Festivals also rotate every two weeks, allowing all of the previous content added throughout the game to be accessible at any time.

The Monster Hunter World board game is a new way to experience one of the most popular entries in the series. Yet despite being new, it's also very familiar and faithful to the core mechanics that the series is popular on. No release window is currently given for the board game, but it's estimated to be priced in the $100 range. The Kickstarter will last until April 30th, and the number of funds raised for the board game will likely continue growing in size until then due to the support for this new way to experience Monster Hunter World.
