Crossover collaborations are a big deal in media. Fans love to see their favorite rapper drop a guest verse in their favorite pop star’s new single. Sweeps week encourages detectives from different cop shows to work on different aspects of the same case. Marvel Comics tuned into a massive media franchise thanks to dozens of films building upon each other. Today, two big role playing game began their own massive team-up.

Paizo publishes Pathfinder, an RPG adapted from the third edition of the Dungeons & Dragons rules. Pathfinder flourished over the past eleven years as a more detailed and customizable alternative to D&D. It’s released several Adventure Paths over the years that have won critical acclaim and fan favorites while also hosting an in-store organized play program that’s brought thousands of new players into the role playing game hobby.

Savage Worlds is the main product of Pinnacle Entertainment Group. It began as a set of miniature skirmish rules that were expanded into an RPG. The versatile nature of the game allowed the rules to be adapted to dozens of game settings featuring licensed properties like Flash Gordon and classic worlds like Deadlands.

The Pathfinder for Savage Worlds Kickstarter launched today and is already a six figure success story for Pinnacle. Paizo licensed materials from the first edition of the game to be adapted to the lighter Savage Worlds rules set. The core rule book contains everything a player needs to get started having epic fantasy adventures in the dungeonpunk setting of Golarion. Most modern Savage Worlds games require a copy of Savage Worlds Adventure Edition to use but to encourage fans of Pathfinder to try out this new edition, everything that’s needed to play is included within the core book.

Fans who want to go deeper into Golarion can pick up the Ultimate Core Boxed Set which includes the core rule book, a bestiary full of monsters, and Pathfinder themed components of Savage Worlds game elements like bennies, status cards and power cards. There’s also a set of archetypes to allow players to jump in and get started right away. While many of these pieces can be done with game bits lying around the house, they do add an immersive feeling to the tabletop experience.

The program also adapts one of Pathfinder’s most famous adventure paths into Savage Worlds. Rise of the Runelords starts out with a goblin attack on a small town’s holiday festival and takes the players though an exploration of Golarion while delving into the world’s history. This campaign has been reprinted multiple times, been adapted into a card game, set up as a video game and now returns as a deluxe boxed set with all six chapters and a deluxe campaign map.

Paizo’s adventure paths have illustrated the depth and width that fantasy campaigns can go, from pulp jungle adventure to strange magical tech mysteries. Pinnacle has adapted their flexible system to dozens of great settings while also creating their own style of campaign via a system called Plot Points that sets down important adventures that have to happen surrounded by optional elements that can be used as the Game Master prefers.

The Kickstarter runs from January 19th until February 15th, 2021. The products expect to be in stores in September of 2021.
