It’s Remembrance Day here in the UK, the 11th of the 11th, also known as Poppy Day or Veterans Day in the States.
Lombardy Studios currently has a Kickstarter that features colourised photographs and commemorates World War One. It’s a card game for one or two players, can be used as a standard deck of cards and doesn’t require you to buy any extra booster decks to keep up with friends.

A pledge of $35 will get you one copy of MacGown & Lombardy’s The Great War, stretch goals and a Teacher’s Guide prepared by professional educators. Why? The next generation must learn what happened in the past; otherwise, we’re doomed to repeat our mistakes.
Dana Lombardy, the designer behind Lombardy Studios, has other games and these begin to unlock at higher pledge levels. Pledge $69 (about £53), and you’ll get The Great War and four other mini-games.
As the pitch video shows, in addition to the regular playing deck suits, The Great War cards are also marked with icons; arrows, crosses and plus signs. While attacking or defending, you can chain appropriate plus cards together to build up your battle point value.
However, it’s not just your opponent (or the system in the solo game) you have to beat. There are real-world misfortune as well as random events may, as they did in World War One, ruin plans.

MacGowan and Lombardy are asking for $18,000 to fund the card game, got halfway there in just a few days and now have over $11,000 with 26 days still to run.
The game has an expected delivery date of March 2021.
