It’s time for another Kickstarter round up as we look at some of our favorite tabletop games announced over the last couple of weeks.

Café Chaos

I have to admit that this is not one that I was aware of until it was brought to my attention by my daughter. The Odd 1s Out: Café Chaos is the brainchild of James Rallison, youtube storyteller and animator, and Pet Vaughan, game designer. It features the art stylings of James, as featured on his rather popular youtube channel. For the uninitiated, and where have you been, The Odd 1s Out is a humorous ‘true-life’ story as told by James, with animations to match. The card game places you in the midst of a food fight against your friends and to win a round you create ‘epic food combos’ from your hand. Anyone who likes the channel will love this game. Bored Game

Next up, we have Bored Game - the board game, that proudly promotes the fact it was 0.2% funded in 24 hours. Whether this game has done enough to attract backers remains to be seen, especially as there are no shots or video of the actual game. What attracted our attention is the humor of the campaign and potential shenanigans players will get up to. The idea brings something a little different to the table, in that the game changes as new rules are added as you play. Most if not all are made up during the game by the players. It’s an interesting concept that we hope the creator gets a chance to run with. If not hopefully he will revisit again but with a prototype and demo next time. Blitz: Speed War

Something a little different this time with a print and play tabletop RTS game, Blitz: Speed War. There are two versions available, a 2D paper-based game and a 3D printed tile-based game. The game is powered by a companion app for each player that keeps track of the game state. There are no turns, as the game is played in realtime. The app features countdown timers for the various actions that a player can make and when they can make them. We’re not sure how this will play but it has certainly attracted the attention of some, as it was funded on its first day To find out more visit their Kickstarter page.

Plantopia

Singapore outfit, Origame, successfully funder their first game Plantopia in three hours! The card game features cute kawaii-style fruit and veg, as players compete to grow the craziest garden. The game is based on the Life of a Potato comic series that sees a little potato and his friends spread love, kindness, and laughter. The game features 90 plant cards, 25 planter cards, and 24 weather cards. Kickstarter backers will also receive a special seed pack featuring plants native to Singapore. LG Tactics

LG Tactics is a new card game from the Archimedes Game Co. that see 2 players fight against each other using a small hand of three cards. The artwork of the card features a crisp clean silhouette in either blue, green, or red - this is important, as some cards can only be used if it matches a color requirement. Players draw three cards from the deck and then deploy them onto the playing area. They may then attack using three cards that have been on the table for at least one round. The winner is the first to deploy three cards all of the same colors and add up to 11, or if they win three rounds of combat. The aesthetic may not be to everyone's liking but the decision to use bold colors, simple imagery, and a minimalist layout makes the game accessible to players of all ages. Backers can opt for a print and play version of the game, or pledge higher for a professionally printed deck. To find out more visit their Kickstarter page.

Remember, Kickstarter is a funding website that enables entrepreneurs to raise funds to produce a product directly from individuals. It is not a preorder system as your pledge does not guarantee that you will receive a product. With that said, game designers have a good track record of delivering on what they promise but you should still do your due diligence before backing. Our inclusion should not be seen as an endorsement, they are just projects that tickled our fancy.
