It’s that time of the week again, Tabletop Kickstarter Roundup. Cue Trumpet fanfare. As seems to be the trend at the moment, it has been another busy week over at Kickstarter Towers. We have already covered one of our favorites, Steven Universe: Beach-a-Palooza Card Battling Game, but what about the rest?
Whale Riders
Grail Games have worked with designer Reiner Knizia and artiest Vincent Dutrait six times now, including their latest collaboration Whale Riders (Not based on the movie). It’s the 18th Kickstarter campaign for the studio and has already been successfully funded, with at the time of writing almost triple the goal raised and 11 days to go! Whale Riders sees 2-6 players race against each other “to the end of Ice Coast and back.” As you race, you have to buy and sell resources to help gain the richest prizes. The gameplay is simple, with each playing having two actions to make per turn. They can Sell, Buy, Sail, or Draw (more cards). Your actions determine how fast you go and the odds of finding richer treasure, but at what cost? Backers will also receive an exclusive Whale Riders Card Game not planned for retail launch. The Night Cage
Smashing its goal is The Night Cage, a cooperative tile placing game by Curt Covert. It reached it’s funding within 90 minutes and is currently sitting at over $53000 with 18 days to go. The game sees each player take on the role of a prisoner with their only possession a candle with limited light. As players move new tiles are placed around them revealing new tunnels as they progress, while those behind are removed as they fade away out of sight. To win, the players must find a key that opens the gate, all before the light expires and they find out what lies beyond. The tiles are drawn from a randomly mixed stack with the key and gate tiles hidden somewhere amidst the others. For more information visit The Night Cage Kickstarter page.
Dollars To Donuts
New puzzle game Dollars to Donuts is a beautifully illustrated game from publisher Crafty Games and studio Flatout Games. Players take on the role of a donut seller who must maintain their donut store and earn the most points. Each player has a mat with a square grid. Donut tiles are 1 x 4 squares in size featuring donut halves back to back. Players can buy these tiles using dollar tokens and place them next to each other to make a full donut. Matched donuts award victory tokens which can also be used to feed their customers to earn even more points! - Surrealist Dinner Party sees you host a dinner party and invite some the artists from Surrealism art movement. The game has been beautifully illustrated by Virginia Mori and design by Mary Flanagan.
