As promised: we have another Kickstarter board games related article ready. This time we’re previewing 3 titles scheduled for July. Without further ado… let’s get to it!
Western Legends – Blood Money – July 7th
One of the best open world sandbox games is back on Kickstarter yet again. 2 to 6 players take on the roles of famous figures living in the Wild West. There are many ways to win: from gambling, mining for gold and attacking bandit groups to working as a lawful sheriff. The “Ante Up!” expansion made the game much bigger with elements like a train that moves through the board and a deeper gambling system.
Blood Money, the final expansion to Western Legends is going even further and might turn the game into a real colossus. Risk seems to be the main theme now, which should satisfy many players who kept asking about more consequences of their decisions. A new injury deck got introduced and it adds various negative effects to players who get too many wounds. These cards might be hard to get rid of and will cripple you a lot until healed.
Risk Die is another new component that will spice up the gameplay. Rolling it gets you rewards but there’s a chance at getting additional wounds (or bonuses). Other innovations include a traveling trader with powerful items, purchasing deeds and improved storytelling thanks to Legendary Story System.
Mining Colony – July
In the far future, the planet where you live has barely any resources left to continue prospering. Luckily, thanks to science, interplanetary flights have become possible and vital for humanity’s survival. Many spaceships with specialized crews head to planets overflowing with natural resources to establish bases and mine whatever useful minerals they find and then: bring them back home.
Mining Colony was designed by Steve Finn, the creator of Biblious and Herbaceous. This July he’s planning to crowdfund 2 completely new games (more on the other one below).
Mining Colony bears some similarity to Cosmic Run but the gameplay was enriched and improved on many levels. 1 to 4 players can play together and the pace is on the faster side.
Each of you plays as a crew competing for resources by creating mines, bases and science related facilities. Tile placement is the key mechanic here. Each round you flip resource cards to add resources to excavations zones and then: compete for these. Next everyone can upgrade their personal bases with tiles you got from your previous activities. You have 10 full rounds to score higher than your opponents and become the winner.
Nanga Parbat – July
Nanga Parbat (or Diamer as the locals call it) is one of the eight-thousanders – tallest mountains that lure hundreds of individuals who dream of reaching their summits. It’s also the home of people called Sherpa, locals who possess amazing mountaineering skills and one of a kind culture. Living in such place has made many of them work as guides for faraway visitors who plan to reach the legendary summit.
In Steve Finn’s newest 2-player game each of you takes on the role of a Sherpa person and your task is to prepare the mountain for waves of hikers. You’ll have to work on creating base camps, vital for every person wishing to climb the dreaded peak alive. Meanwhile you’ll also have time for some hunting, as animals also count towards the final score. Placing hikers is also important as they need guides and when located in a smart way, can bring some chaos into the plans of your opponent.
