Kickstarter effort short of goal for Vansauwa’s but work continues

Owners Desaepa Vansauwa and Zirconia Alleyne will continue catering and serving from their tent while looking for other options to equip a new food trailer.

A Kickstarter campaign seeking $15,000 to equip and brand a new food trailer for Vansauwa’s Tacos & Vegan Eats fell short of its goal last Thursday night.

The owners, Desaepa Vansauwa and Zirconia Alleyne, thanked supporters in a Facebook post and said they’ll move ahead with other options to get the food trailer operational. In the meantime, they will continue to serve food and cater events using their tent and outdoor cooking equipment.

“This is part of our journey of new endeavors, and we’re in for the ride,” they wrote. “… Vansauwa’s is here to stay, and we will expand into our food trailer, even if we’ve got to do it piece by piece.”

At the deadline late Thursday, the Kickstarter campaign had raised $6,814 from 93 supporters. However, if a Kickstarter campaign does not meet its goal, no pledges are collected.

Friday morning Vansauwa said he and Alleyne are looking at a different online crowd-funding platform called Go Fund Me. It does not require meeting a goal to collect donations from supporters.

They’ll take the weekend to consider Go Fund Me and announce plans soon, Vansauwa said.

In the Facebook post, they added, “We will continue to whip up our delicious Caribbean-inspired tacos and vegan eats, but we are taking the weekend to regroup and refresh with family. Weather permitting, the griddle will be sizzling again next week! See you soon!”
