Fans of Company of Heroes (CoH), there is good news for you. Relic Entertainment’s World War 2-based real time strategy game is going to be launched in an entirely new avatar. And not in the form of a reboot of CoH or another CoH game based on World War 2 events but as a tabletop game.
The RTS title will be launching as a tabletop game courtesy public-funding platform Kickstarter. Developer Bad Crow Games has got a Kickstarter page with an aim to turn the highly popular RTS into a tabletop game. The upcoming game is aimed at giving players a streamlined board game experience. The various tasks that players can do in the game are resource collection, purchase units and upgrades, special units and commanders etc. The CoH Board Game Kickstarter runs until June 26. The game is scheduled to launch in May 2020.
There will be four playable nations in the base variant of the tabletop game—the US, Britain, Soviet Union and "Wehrmacht". The game set includes 32 vehicles, 150 infantry figures, 55 dice of various sorts, 44 figure trays, 120 markers, 12 production tiles and a map board. There are three add-ons to the game: Terrain Pack, the Solo/Co-op Expansion, and the Elite Commanders Collection. The add-ons will come with extra components for the game which the base game won’t be having.
The game is aimed specifically for fans of the RTS video game and as per the Kickstarter pitch, if you are just a fan of board games and not happen to be a CoH fan, then it is more of a “probably” situation.
As per developer Bad Crow Games, the CoH board game is a cross between tactical skirmish games and economy-based resource management games and will play and feel differently than other games. Resource management would have vital importance in the game with huge focus on securing, collecting and spending resources.
The pledge for the base tabletop set is $99, and the collector's bundle costs twice of the base game.
