MECHA-UDE Pilot Episode Now Available for Streaming

After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the pilot episode for Sae Okamoto‘s original anime MECHA-UDE (Mechanical Arms) is now available to watch over on YouTube.

The pilot episode was posted on Reina Scully‘s YouTube channel in original Japanese audio with English subtitles (the subtitles can be turned on or off using YouTube’s video player). The episode will be available to watch for free until 10th June 2019.

Reina Scully’s involvement with MECHA-UDE includes serving as an assistant global producer and also voicing the character Aki in the English dub. The latest update on the official Kickstarter page has confirmed that an English dub version will also be available to watch very soon.

MECHA-UDE was animated by TriF Studio with Sae Okamoto helming the project as director. Before MECHA-UDE, Sae Okamoto worked on Sushi Police as a background art director, both Danchi Tomoo and Tenkai Knights as an animator, and even made her own original net anime called 11:08 back in 2012.

Also part of the staff team are Hiroshi Matsuyama (general supervisor), Tatsushi Momen (compositor), NARASAKI (composer), Seiji Toda (recording & mixing engineer), Shūichi Asō (planning), Nurikabe (art director & Mecha-ude designer), Hiroto Niizato (supervision on planning & script), Takeshi Takadera (sound director), and Shōta Kawamura (CG & composite director).

Eve performs the opening theme song “Ambivalent (アンビバレント)” and AZLiGHTZ performs the closing theme song “ALONE”.

MECHA-UDE’s Kickstarter campaign earned enough donations to provide a full-length episode with Japanese voice-over. The cast for the Japanese audio version includes Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Hikaru Amatsuga, Tomokazu Sugita as Arma, Yu Shimamura as Aki Murasame, Kaito Ishikawa as Shinisu and Dekisu, Romi Park as Jun Kagami, Amatsuki as Tohdoh with Alacran, and Eve as Yoh Shirono.

Plot synopsis via Kickstarter campaign:

Hero was a high schooler living an ordinary life.

One day, he meets a very strong and intelligent mechanical arm named “Mecha-ude”. After a strange turn of events, the “Mecha-ude” started living inside Hero’s hoodie and the two’s life full of trouble begins.

As the boy and his “Mecha-ude” fights together and strengthen their bonds, the two also meets new friends who also fights along with each of their own unique “Mecha-ude” partners.

Out of those, one of the heroine has two “Mecha-ude” which appears out of her skirt. An active girl with a totally opposite characteristics from hero himself, he gradually becomes attracted to her.

But the two are confronted with other “Mecha-ude” users who are in search of the secret of “Mecha-ude” relentlessly.

The Kickstarter campaign earned a total of $67,918 across 999 backers from October up to 5th November 2016. The rewards have begun preparations for shipping to the backers sometime around March 2019 after some delays.
