NexDock 2 laptop shell launch with improved Samsung Dex support

NexDock have returned with their new and improved NexDock 2 laptop.
“The world’s most affordable laptop” works by transforming some Windows 10 smartphones, some Android handsets with desktop mode, mini PCs and tablets into a laptop.
While the concept was very well-received, the first Nexdock itself didn’t seem to deliver. Users experienced slow trackpads, USB device errors, power cable issues etc.
In the follow up to the release of the NexDock 2, the company said on Kickstarter:
Rest assured that we’ve had many lessons learned during our first campaign which completed successfully. Our experience helped us develop a solid game plan for NexDock 2. Our goal is to deliver a timeless product and share our vision with everyone!
Since then, 2,166 hopeful backers have pledged $496,689 to fund the new NexDock 2.
How it works:
Nexdock 2 has no CPU, memory or OS; It’s a “laptop shell engineered to harness the productivity of smartphones”. You can control your smartphone using the keyboard and touchpad after connection via the USB port.
The new model features a sleek aluminium body, full HD display edge-to-edge keyboard, USB and USB-C input. This means you can charge the laptop and your smartphone with the same power supply.
Nexdock 2 supports smartphones with “desktop mode” feature and has been optimised to work with Samsung DeX and Huawei Desktop.
Nex makes an environmental case for using your smartphone as your laptop, noting that every time you upgrade your smartphone you also automatically upgrade your laptop, resulting in less waste. In their video they also appear to be suggesting coffee shops offer the shells so customers with the right kind of phone are able to work more effectively while there. That idea would probably work better in a hotel where the facility would not mind you spend the whole day occupying the space.
Despite not quite reaching their $500,000 target for the additional features, all pre-orderers will receive their NexDock 2 with a backlit keyboard. Delivery should begin around September 2019.
