Modiphius Entertainment will release Kung Fu Panda – The Board Game based on the popular DreamWorks Animation series of animated features, in 2019. The game is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.

The cooperative real-time board game has players take control of members of the Furious Five (Monkey, Viper, Mantis, Crane, Tigress) or Dragon Warrior Po. There are many different challenges for the heroes, as they can come up against Ox Grunts, Wolf Slashers & Spearmen, the Wolf Boss or even Tai Lung. Players journey through the Valley of Peace, visiting iconic locations which are represented by double-sided tiles. Action is handled by Furious Action Dice, so players can Kick, Punch, execute two moves, harness Chi or Claw (which move the Dial of Destiny to spawn more enemies), with players rolling combos to move around the board, attack enemies, or complete objectives before the sand timer runs out.

The game is for 2 – 4 players, ages 8 and up, and plays in 10 – 30 minutes.

The Kickstarter launched today, and is already approaching its £30,000 (approximately $39,742) goal. Retailers can back the Kickstarter on the Modiphius retailer page by making a deposit on a case (4 copies) with the balance due when the Kickstarter is fulfilled (currently estimated as March 2019), before retail distribution trade release. Current MSRP is estimated at £35/ $47.00.

Modiphius announced the game in 2015 (see “'Kung Fu Panda' and the Return of 'Siege of the Citadel'”), before Kung Fu Panda 3 released in January 2016 (see “'Panda 3' Tops U.S. Box Office”). The approvals on the game likely hit a snag when DreamWorks was bought by Comcast/NBCUniversal later that year (see “Comcast/Universal/NBC Buying Dreamworks Animation for $3.8 Billion”).
