Kickstarter Check-In: Last Epoch, Black Geyser

RPGamer’s ad hoc Kickstarter Check-In feature returns for a look at two ongoing crowdfunding campaigns. This edition features Eleventh Hour Games’ Last Epoch and GrapeOcean Technologies’ Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness.

Last Epoch

Last Epoch is a loot-based action RPG from Eleventh Hour Games, including time-travel, character customisation, crafting, and an item system designed to encourage replayability. The game is set in the high fantasy world of Eterra, a world that is in its final stages as it is slowly consumed by darkness. However, players have been given the difficult task of potentially rewriting the world’s fate by traveling back in time to find, and utilise the powers of, the Epoch.

Players will be able to travel to four different time periods in their quest to find the Epoch: the Ancient Era, the Divine Era, the Imperial Era, and the Ruined Era. In addition, there are many branches that these eras can take depending on the player’s actions. Certain items and equipment will only be available in specific eras.

The game will feature five base classes, with each class having two mastery classes. Players are able to equip five skills at any one time, with players able to unlock augmentations for these skills through a grid system. Last Epoch will also feature offline and online multiplayer, including co-op for up to five players and both free-for-all and team-based PvP modes.

Last Epoch is being developed for PC, Mac, and Linux, with a planned release in 2020. A demo is available to download from its Kickstarter page. Eleventh Hour Games is looking for $210,000 in funding by May 17, 2018, with those who pledge at least $10 receiving a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards.

Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness

GrapeOcean Technologies’ Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness is an isometric real-time-with-pause RPG inspired by classic cRPGs such as Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and so forth. The game is set in the kingdom of Isilmerald, on the fantasy world of Yerengal.

Greed is currently the main threat to Isilmerald, as it spreads across its populace, a spread that players can work to either slow down or speed up. How greed spreads will have an effect on gameplay, for example, shop prices may go up with some shops even being forced to close down. NPCs afflicted by greed may not be forthright with the player, potentially leading to negative outcomes if the player is tricked or double-crossed.

Black Geyser lets players form a party of up to five members from various NPCs around the kingdom. These characters may themselves be afflicted by greed, potentially causing conflicts within the party. Thieves have been given some special attention, including the Plant Item skill, which may let players implicate NPCs in nefarious doings.

Black Geyser is being developed for PC, Mac, and Linux, with a planned released in 2019. GrapeOcean Technologies is looking for €50,000 in funding by May 30, 2018, with those who pledge at least €19 receiving a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards (at the time of writing there is still a limited number of the €16 tier that offers the same rewards).
