For anyone who suffers from a long wait while attempting to upload large video and photo files onto their computer, there’s a new Kickstarter for a portable hard drive that says it can back up your files and offer faster on-the-go file uploading services you can use right after taking photos. The company suggests you can do away with bringing your laptop to outdoor photo shoots and instead use its mobile app for editing files and uploading to Dropbox.

The Kickstarter is for a device called the Gnarbox 2.0, which lets you insert your SD card into the hard drive and use it as an additional backup tool. It’s an upgrade to its predecessor, the Gnarbox 1.0, which already offered a mobile large file storage and uploading solution also through Kickstarter. The eponymous company successfully delivered on Gnarbox 1.0 back in 2015. The Gnarbox 2.0 has already exceeded its Kickstarter goal of $75,000, and, as of this writing, it’s raised $422,590.

The Gnarbox 2.0, which comes with 1TB of storage, is compatible with Samsung Galaxy S6 through S9 phones, Google Pixel, and most Apple devices. Both the Gnarbox 1.0 and its old 2014 app are still getting support, but the company has rolled a new version of the mobile app on iOS and Android.

The app now has tools like Sequence, which lets you play back video recordings on your phone and select segments of video you want to edit. Gnarbox also partnered up with Adobe Lightroom and Dropbox for easier software integrations. The idea is that after editing on the go and doing what you can, you can return home and finish the job with the full version of Adobe software for publication.

The company says delivery can be expected in September of this year, but as with most Kickstarters, delivery isn’t guaranteed.
