Torment: Tides of Numenera's Kickstarter edges closer to completion, as just two days remain for the massively successful project. Funding surpassed $3.5 million earlier today, which brings Chris Avellone of Obsidian Entertainment on board. Avellone was the lead designer for Planescape: Torment, so fans of the original should greatly welcome his inclusion on the spiritual succesor.
In addition to Avellone joining the design team, he'll also be writing and designing a brand new companion to join you on your quest. He's going to be a pretty busy man over the next year or so, as Avellone has agreed to work on Wasteland 2, plus there's Project Eternity, which his own company, Obsidian, is developing. Still, if it means the original lead designer of PS:T is onboard in some capacity, the new game should be that much greater.
InXile also announced the amount of Facebook "Likes" has reached 10,000 while the number of Kickstarter backers is over 63,000, which means the Castoff's Labyrinth (a massive after-death dungeon) has an 8th Fathom. If the number of backers reach 66,000 then a 9th Fathom is added, while if funding hits $3.6m then the Hall of Lingering Reflections gets added to the game world. The Hall of Lingering Reflections is a subterranean vault full of memories "built by a forgotten power for forgotten reasons." Inside are secrets to unlock, and maybe a companion to gain.
There are some new add-ons to add to your pledge, like alpha access if you already have beta access, while the digital comic and/or comic compliation by Chris Avellone can be added to any tier.
Oh, and there's one other thing inXile had to share today: a second screenshot. On Monday a screenshot from The Bloom was shown, while today's in set in the Sagus Cliffs. The city of Sagus Cliffs is horizontally and vertically expansive, with unique architecture the further down towards the water you go. It also appears to be a city with some magic in it, as evidenced by the bridge in the screenshot.
Time is running out to get your pledge in for Torment: Tides of Numenera on Kickstarter, so be sure to do so before April 5 if you want to add more to the game!
Anyway, great news. Wasn't really that impressed when I saw the initial pitch. But they've hooked in this ridiculous star-gallery of writers for the project now - It's as if all the fiction writers of all my favourite sci-fi series all turned out to be alive in the same century, and then came together to write something they thought would be interesting. That kind of thing doesn't happen, and never would have without crowd-funding like this. No publisher would have accepted this pitch, simple as that.
Anyway so.. 38 hours to go. It's already funded, but why not help it reach another stretch-goal?
