Owlcat Games recently published new updates about its upcoming computer RPG “Pathfinder: Kingmaker.” The updates tackle how players can build kingdoms and introduce the first companion named Valerie. Find out more below.

There’s still a month to go until the Kickstarter campaign for “Pathfinder Roleplaying Game”-inspired isometric single-player RPG “Pathfinder: Kingmaker” closes. As early as now though, the support for the project has been outstanding. In fact, the campaign amassed over $370,000 worth of pledges four days after it was launched with the initial goal of $500,000.

Because of the strong response of fans all over the world, Moscow, Russia-based developer Owlcat Games published new updates about its upcoming game. With support from Paizo, Inc., the developer is closer to realizing its goal of introducing a brand-new fantasy saga that’s set in the well-received “Pathfinder” game. However, fans can expect a lot of things from the new game, and Owlcat is slowly unravelling the new features everyone should watch out for.

Kingdom Building Update

One of Owlcat’s latest updates explains what the kingdom feature within the game is all about. The developer said that players should not just view their kingdom as a gimmick, but their companion. A kingdom should reflect the player’s character and the choices he or she makes in the game. Creative director Alexander Mishulin noted that most of the kingdom building feature has to do with making strategic decisions.

“Events unfold in a pattern and this pattern is the story of a king. Your kingdom is a companion and should have a story. You have several of those pretty defined and selected randomly at the start, so every time you play the story will be different because of random events and this pattern,” Mishulin said.

“All other systems are also there. You will be able to join regions if you impress people in those regions enough. You will be able to upgrade regions, but to do that you have to solve special events that tie to those regions and have strong moral choices. You have to grow and understand how to solve this and depending on the choices you made, [your] ability will be selected for you,” Mishulin added.

When it comes to building one’s stronghold, Mishulin said players will have the freedom to construct the buildings they want based on the wide range of build options they have in the game. “If you want to make a kingdom [for bandits], you can construct a lot of crime arranging buildings and black market will get out of that, or if, you say, want your kingdom to be more cultural, you can focus on theaters and museums,” Mishulin explained.

“Pathfinder: Kingmaker” will definitely make you a king, but it is up to you to shape this kingdom and lead it to victories. Your decisions on how to expand, open new territories, and build more communities will reflect your thirst to ensure the success of your kingdom. On the other hand, your policies and the allies you choose will reflect the type of leadership you want to impose to your kingdom. On the whole, everything is really up to you.

Companions Update

Owlcat Games has formally introduced the first companion players will find when they visit the dangerous place of Stolen Lands. Valerie is a Brevic fighter who is known for her “flawless, almost supernatural beauty.” Such beauty has caused her unwanted advances from several admirers in the past, so she brushed them off with arrogance, distant manners, and an impenetrable shield.

Born of the noble Brevic family, Valerie was originally chosen by her father to become Shelyn’s paladin. However, she was more drawn to martial arts than the teachings of obedience, humbleness, and whatnot. Valerie eventually decided to leave the high society and become a seasoned mercenary.

Owlcat Games said Valerie is a reliable defender to every challenge that will come the player’s way. She has mastered the art of using her sword and tower shield. When it comes to her defensive tactics, Valerie plays it well by patiently waiting for the perfect timing to strike her enemies.

The best part about this companion is she is a natural-born leader. When you have her on your side, she can inspire many people. If you give her a role in your kingdom, she will impress you with her talents in state defense and diplomacy. Nevertheless, just like all the other companions, Vaierie will either stay by your side or betray you depending on your actions. So you need to be careful.
